English Institute of Sport - Sheffield

Background
Sport England approached us to manage this prestigious sporting venue which has specialist facilities for 60 different sports activities and is home to local sports clubs and national sporting bodies including the GB Boxing Team and the World Snooker Academy.

Strategy and Implementation
Under our management, EIS Sheffield has become accessible for all and one of the UK's leading indoor sports venues. We have successfully developed programmes to cater for elite sports people, clubs and the local community. There is a packed timetable of activities for people of all ages and abilities, a state-of-the-art fitness suite and a programme of major sporting events including fencing, boxing, judo and more.

Outcome
In each year of our management, the income of EIS Sheffield has increased along with the number of visitors to the Venue.

Staveley Healthy Living Centre

Background
The Healthy Living Centre aims to helping local people in Staveley near Chesterfield to improve their health and fitness. We operate the catering at the centre on behalf of Chesterfield Borough Council.

Strategy and Implementation
The Healthy Living Centre includes a community sports and fitness centre. The catering contract needs to meet with the principles of scheme which are to promote an active and healthy lifestyle.

Our successful catering brand, foodetc, already runs quality cafes and food outlets at some of our Sheffield venues and offers a range of freshly prepared hot and cold healthy food to eat in or take away.

As part of the Staveley venture, we shared in the capital cost of developing the kitchen and serving area for the cafe.

Outcome
Centre users have a high quality café bar which is fully licensed and open every day, offering a range of hot and cold food options and drinks. It is a welcoming space to relax before or after a workout and has comfortable seating, views over the pool and an outside terrace.

Westfield Sports Centre

Background
Westfield Sports Centre is tailored to meet the needs of the local communities and caters for both individuals and families. We provide management services at this model dual use centre on behalf of Kier Managed services on the site of Westfield Sports College.

Strategy and Implementation
The sports centre is situated on the same site as Westfield Sports College who use the centre during the day to develop the fitness and sporting talent of those who attend the college.

We manage the community side of the centre while supporting the needs of the College.

Outcome
We have developed a unique business approach where, without entering into a full management contract, we provide a Manager and full access to all of our operational systems.

Tapton Park Golf Course

Background
Tapton Park Golf Course is situated on the outskirts of Chesterfield, Derbyshire. It is the only municipal parkland golf course in the area boasting a full 18 hole demanding golf course, a testing 9 hole golf course and a 9 hole pitch and putt course. We operate the course on behalf of Chesterfield Borough Council.

Strategy and Implementation
Because we have secured a 25 year lease to run the golf course we have been able to make significant improvements to the course and social facilities. These include:

Outcome
The course and facilities are significantly improved and appeal to a wider range of people of all ages. Membership packages are inclusive and support both aspiring young golfers and experienced players who enjoy top class facilities with affordable membership rates.

Improvements will continue over the next 12 months with planning permission secured for a 15 bay driving range.

Troutbeck Bridge Swimming Pool

Background
SEL provides operational support and guidance to Life Trust, a Charity operating the community swimming pool at Troutbeck Bridge, Cumbria.

Strategy and Implementation
In June 2009 the newly appointed Life Trust Director, David Howell appointed us to act as operational consultant advisors. Together we have turned around this facility from being a loss making public swimming pool to becoming a sustainable and commercially viable leisure facility offering a full programme of swimming sessions and fitness and exercise facilities for the public to enjoy.

Outcome
Troutbeck Bridge Swimming Pool has a full timetable of swimming sessions and is a valuable asset to local schools and the community. Life has gone on to secure further funding from the local authority to make improvements to the facilities.
