Last weekend they headlined the Monsters Of Rock Festival in Milton Keynes Bowl and boy did they rock. The hard rock pioneers Deep Purple are currently being lauded for their latest studio album ‘Rapture Of The Deep’. The self-proclaimed ‘heaviest of heavy rock bands’, have also just had their ‘Best Of’ Three-CD set ‘The Platinum Collection’ voted ‘Collection Of The Year’ by the readers of Classic Rock Magazine, who also awarded the band their inaugural ‘Classic Album’ award for 1970’s ‘In Rock’ opus at their debut awards ceremony in October 2005 at London’s Café De Paris. Expect a plethora of mega-hits, from ‘Smoke On The Water’ to ‘Child In Time’ and ‘Black Night’.

Ian Gillan commented that “For Deep Purple to headline the return of the mighty Monsters of Rock Festival in 2006 is somewhat appropriate, as this brings two venerable giants of hard rock together for the first time. I have great memories of playing the Monsters of Rock as a solo artist back in 1982, and am very much looking forward to Deep Purple’s debut appearance and the forthcoming UK Tour.”

Fronted by maverick vocalist and bassist Phil Lynott, Thin Lizzy broke the mould with their blend of rock, tinged with folk influences. After several years striving for success, and several line-up changes, Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson joined Lizzy and 1976 was the breakthrough year with the acclaimed "Jailbreak" hitting the charts followed by the classic "The Boys Are Back In Town". "Don't Believe A Word", "Dancin' In The Moonlight (It's Caught Me In The Spotlight)" and Bad Reputation gave the band further hit singles.

Many more line-up changes occurred and in early 1980, after recording some solo work, Lynott reunited with Thin Lizzy for Chinatown, which included the controversial Top 10 single, "Killer On The Loose". Guitarist John Sykes joined the line-up and the band's final studio album, Thunder And Lightning was released in 1983, before the band made their final appearance in Nuremburg in September 1984. In 1986 Phil Lynott died of heart failure and pneumonia after a drugs overdose.

The current line up of this Classic Band is Scott Gorham, John Sykes (vocals/guitars), Marco Mendoza (Bass) and Tommy Aldridge (drums).
