 A leading international sports centre is helping to unlock fitness for 4,000 gym-goers in Sheffield, thanks to an individual training key system. Staff at Ponds Forge have begun free inductions for gym members for its new Wellness System ahead of the opening of its new multi-million pound facility in June and keen members have already been queuing to be amongst the first in the city to sign up. The Technogym System (TGS) key is a small electronic fob that can fit on a key ring and stores personalised workout programmes set by specialist instructors so users can make the best use of their time in the gym as they move towards their personal health and fitness goals. It also acts as an ignition key for the equipment. Helen Broadbent, general manager at Ponds Forge, said: “This is a significant milestone for our Fitness Unlimited members because they are getting an active insight into what lies ahead. “The TGS keys create a link to data that is unique to each person including personal gym programmes, information about your last workout and it even allows you to communicate with the fitness team. “Every member will be inducted into the new system so they can use the new equipment. “We’ve got plenty of our lifestyle consultants on hand from now until the gym opens to officially get them started so we’re expecting thousands of people to come through the doors and take away their new keys. We’ve had many new members sign up already so we know the system is going to be extremely popular.” The new gym at Sheffield International Venues (SIV) managed Ponds Forge is scheduled to open in June following a large-scale refurbishment, which has also included the leisure pool and the creation of two brand new fitness studios.
