 | Jess on the comeback trail | | Sheffield's Jessica Ennis will start her journey to the World Championships this weekend when she makes a full return to competitive action.
Heptathlete Jess, who trains at the English Institute of Sport - Sheffield (EIS Sheffield), is competing at Multistars, a combined events meeting in Desenzano del Garda, Italy.
The 23-year-old, who suffered a stress fracture to her foot last summer before the Beijing Olympics, has completed a full rehabilitation programme and been training hard at EIS Sheffield over the winter.
She returned to competition during the indoor season in January with a series of low-key competitions but is now aiming to achieve a qualifying score for the World Championships in August.
"It was such a shame to miss last year so I want to make up for it this year.
"My main aim is to try and get the qualifying score for the World Championships and then prepare for the worlds."
Jess must achieve the UK Athletics 'A' qualifying standard of 6,100 points to secure her place in Berlin.
She won the same competition in Italy two years ago with a score of 6,388 and her personal best is 6,469 from Osaka.
Paul Hudson, general manager of EIS Sheffield, which is managed by Sheffield International Venues (SIV), said: "It is fantastic to see Jess back to full fitness. She has worked so hard in training at EIS Sheffield and everyone at the venue wishes her the best of luck for this weekend."
Jess has spent time at EIS Sheffield tweaking her technique to avoid a recurrence of the injury.
"I am really looking forward to this weekend, but having not competed for a year I am definitely a bit anxious about getting back into competition.
"But I have had a good period of training over the winter and have been happy with how things have been going with my programme."
