Don Valley's Alex Lands Double Gold to take Medal Tally to Seven
Don Valley's Alex Kiwomya celebrated his thirteenth birthday last week by sprinting his way to double gold at the North of England Athletics Championships in Gateshead.

Alex, 13 last Wednesday, became the Northern Under-15 100m and 200m Champion adding to his double gold medal haul at the Yorkshire Championships two weeks ago at Don Valley Stadium and 60m and 200m double gold at the Northern Indoor Championships at EIS Sheffield in January.

Alex won his first National title in the 60m at the National Indoor Athletics Championships at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena in February.

The Notre Dame High School pupil clocked a winning time of 23.38 in the 200m and 11.7 in the 100m at the Gateshead International Stadium.

Don Valley coach Rob Creasey said: "This was a very mature and focussed day's work. Alex had to execute four races in under four hours to come away with two gold medals in difficult windy weather conditions. He put in big performances when it mattered in the finals and I look forward to seeing what he can do at Don Valley in six weeks time at the English Schools Championships."

He will go on to compete at his first English Schools Championships on his home track at Sheffield International Venues-managed Don Valley Stadium on July 10-11.

Talented sportsman Alex, who is the son of former professional footballer Andy Kiwomya, also enjoys playing football at the Rotherham United FC Centre of Excellence as well as winning gold medals for Rotherham Harriers Athletic Club.
