‘The BigSmall Event’ is huge for Sheffield
Sheffield will host a major event to encourage and inspire the city’s entrepreneurs to capitalise on business opportunities in the wake of the recession.
The BigSmall Event, being held by Sheffield Enterprise Agency, part of the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, is targeted at helping businesses, entrepreneurs, students and schools from across the region through the recovery period.
Highlight of the day, at Sheffield City Hall on March 11, will be the talks from business-come-TV-reality-stars Claire Young, formerly of The Apprentice, and Doug Richard, formerly of Dragons’ Den.
Claire Young was the finalist on the 2008 series of hit BBC programme The Apprentice and now manages a successful hospitality business called Elegant Venues alongside a busy media career.
Claire said: “The BigSmall Event will provide plenty of inspiration for people who have often considered starting a business but might not have had the confidence or knowledge to make the most of their ideas.
“For potential entrepreneurs, starting a business can be extremely daunting. The workshops and talks on the day will equip attendees with some of the essential knowledge they need to turn their ideas into something tangible.
"I’m really looking forward to meeting some of Sheffield’s up-and-coming entrepreneurs, sharing my own business experiences and of course making some useful contacts!”
Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in skills workshops, view exhibitions, have one-to-one tuition and much more.
Mandip Dosanjh, enterprise director at Sheffield Enterprise Agency, said: “BigSmall perfectly illustrates what Sheffield is all about and it’s an event the whole city should be looking forward to.
“This region is a vibrant hub for entrepreneurialism. As the recent challenging financial times begin to abate, an event which celebrates our business heritage and encourages education and learning of new skills can only speed up the city’s fiscal recovery.
“The calibre of the speakers, the workshops on offer and the networking opportunities available cater for every type of SME and I would encourage all new businesses and anyone interested in entrepreneurialism to come along.“
The BigSmall Event is sponsored by Yorkshire Forward and Business Link.
