Budding journalists from a Sheffield school got a taste of the multi-media world when they took part in an Olympic education programme.
A group of Year 5 pupils from Charnock Hall Primary School completed the Going for Gold project, which is run by Playing for Success at the English Institute of Sport – Sheffield (EIS Sheffield).
Fourteen students interviewed GB volleyball star Rachel Laybourne about her career and training schedule in the run up to London 2012.
They planned, scripted and filmed the interview with the Sheffield spiker, created a film using professional movie making software and designed a DVD cover.
Jakki Marshall, centre co-ordinator for Playing for Success at EIS Sheffield, which is operated by Sheffield International Venues (SIV), said: “Playing for Success is about using the power of sport to engage school children in learning and education.
“Through the Going for Gold project, the students were able to try a host of skills such as story telling, IT and art and design. They had a great time and the finished DVD is fantastic.”
The British Volleyball Association is based at EIS Sheffield where its GB men and women’s squads are training for the 2012 Olympics. |
