Clare Cryan and Georgia Davenport led the City of Sheffield Diving Club challenge at the British Gas Elite Junior Championships in Southampton, each bringing home a gold medal.

Clare was triumphant in the girls 16 years and over 3 metre springboard event which she won by 20 points. Her highest score came from a superb 2 ½ somersault with 1 twist dive which was awarded over 60 points. Following this success, Clare was confirmed as a British entry in the European Junior Championships later this month.

Georgia Davenport topped the boards in the girls 14/15 years 1 metre springboard competition. In a closely fought contest she emerged as the victor by producing the most consistent performance. In the same competition, Clare Cryan came 4th as did Jade Semper in the platform event for the same age group. Clare and Georgia then joined forces in the 14-18 years 3 metre springboard synchro competition where they also achieved 4th place.

Sheffield's other gold medallist at the championships was Freddie Woodward who, together with partner Josh Dowd from Leeds, won the 16 years and over 3 metre springboard synchro competition. Freddie also won silver in the individual 3 metre springboard event.

Elliot Beeden returns to Sheffield weighed down by 4 medals. He was the silver medallist in the boys 12/13 years 1 metre springboard and platform events and the bronze medallist in the 3 metre springboard competition. Finishing the set he teamed up with Jordan Houlden to pick up another silver medal in the 9-13 years 3 metre springboard synchro event. Jordan reached the final of 2 individual events coming 6th on both occasions.

Completing Sheffield's outstanding results was triple medallist Ross Haslam who picked up bronze medals in all three of his events.

Sheffield City Council's Diving Development Officer  Nikki Smith said "it was thrilling to watch such a powerful display of diving from the Sheffield team."
