As most of you will know from the local media England is applying to host the World Cup in nine years and Sheffield has been designated as an applicant host city by the Football Association. We have already presented a 100 page outline submission to the sport's governing body and received the first of three official inspection visits to the city.

The benefits to Sheffield and the city region would be almost incalculable.

Some 15 cities, containing up to 22 stadia, have registered their interest across the country. These will be whittled down to between 12 and 18 stadiums at the end of the year.

The 15 cities are: Sheffield, Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Nottingham, Portsmouth and Sunderland.

We must demonstrate widespread support for the bid from across the city region and we would urge you to register your support.

SIGN UP: Today we want YOU to click here to sign up on the official FA campaign site for England to host World Cup 2018 matches - in Sheffield.

Also leave your messages of support, with comments at the bottom of this story. Tell us why Sheffield should be a host city. Register your support here

Please encourage others, family, friends, colleagues etc etc to support the bid. PROVIDED THEY BACK SHEFFIELD!
