Preparing for and competing in elite international competitions is hard work. So to ease young people into the regimes required for meeting the demands of competing, the ASA runs an annual meet.
Held in England, young people are split into five age groups for this competition, ranging from 8-9 years to 16-18 years of age. The kind of dives performed will differ depending on the age of the diver.
Schedule
To compete in each age group the diver must be:
For Age Group E 8-9 Ages 31st December
For Age Group D 10-11 Ages 31st December
For Age Group C 12-13 Ages 31st December
For Age Group B 14-16 Ages 31st December
For Age Group A 17-18 Ages 31st December
The competition includes both 1m springboard, 3m springboard and platform events. To protect younger athletes, the height of the platform (either 5m, 7.5m or 10m) varies depending on the age group of the diver.
Restrictions also apply in terms of the difficulty of the divers, with lower Tariffs and a reduced number of dives according to the diver’s age. The number of dives for each age group varies between a minimum of 4 for the youngest divers and 8 for the oldest.
There is also a synchronized diving event at the championships where 2 divers perform the same skill into the water at the same time. Again, this is divided into age categories with a younger age group (8-13 yrs) and older age group (14-18 yrs).
