Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus will be joining forces with the Black Dyke Band and members of Halifax Choral Society to bring Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man to the City Hall for the first time. Both choruses participated in this newly commissioned version for brass band and choir last spring in Symphony Hall Birmingham where it was received to high acclaim and recorded to DVD. Composed in 2000, The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace is already iconic and has become Jenkins' most performed work, with over 900 performances since its première; not counting the extensive radio coverage of its most recognisable piece ‘Benedictus’. The music will be accompanied by projected images which will include the Sheffield Blitz, making for an unusual and evocative evening in the Irwin Mitchell Oval Hall.
